If Dorgan thinks it's a good idea, Morgan can move off down the column and look for healers or any other aid. And he will promise to keep his big mouth shut.

Any healer capable of casting Neutralize Poison is likely to be in the van so we should just stick with the plan of walking around the column from the front.

Works for Morgan, he'll remain with Dorgan and the pilgrims.

The pilgrim women look unsure for another rainy moment, before one of them signs herself with the Enigma of Thuul before answering: "They seems to be tha Commissioner's mission, Milord, that we paced for four weeks since we left Maine." She wipes the dripping water from her brow, but another lass picks up the narrative. "They look to be more so than what I remembers. Forty they was then, and I count real good."

"The templar and the dwarf came from them too," murmurs another women, "Those that saw us to the abbey; what were their names..?"

It continues to rain lightly.

Down below on the muddy track, much of the column seems to be breaking out water flasks and supplies. But the front third of the force drop simultaneously to one knee, and a mounted figure can be heard shouting some kind of rhetoric over them. The troops bow their heads for half a minute, then give a sudden shout and--all in unison--beat a mailed fist across their chests. Then they stand more casually and start on their rations.

It must be coming on for lunch time...

Dorgan turns back to look at the pilgrims.

Wait, are ya saying that Helmut and Valorn came from this group, and weren't always with ye? Valorn has gone missing, and possibly made into ogre stew. That's news I 'spect their leaders would want ta hear. Helmut traveled through the Ring... Well, we'll keep that one ta ourselves for the nonce. It's done then, we'll head for the van and see if we can find someone with kinder ears than them two on horse.

Dorgan will move with purpose now toward the head of the column.

Morgan will gather up the pilgrims and lead them to follow Dorgan in search of the van.

"Come friends. Our journey continues a bit longer!"

Dorgan makes his decision and--with his ebbing mortal strength--leads out the raggedy band of rain sodden, mud-stained pilgrims down the sloshy incline and directly toward the head of the stationary column; hardly 100 yards down the slope.

They have hardly made a tenth of this distance before a dull alarm bell begins to toll repeatedly, followed by several blasts on a horn with, and a quick rousing to readiness of the professional head of the column as half a dozen outriders being to close on our determined party at a gallop.

It's clear that the riders mean business, and that Dorgan and Morgan will not get half way to the column before they are intercepted. In under a minute the riders are thundering down on them. The pilgrims have quailed half a dozen paces back, their knocking knees simply refusing to carry them any further. They've stopped in their tracks--but it's a credit to them that they haven't turned and fled.

Dorgan and Morgan are out front with three pairs of riders honing in on them from directly ahead, ahead-left, and ahead-right.

What to do?
The referee checks the morale of the pilgrims 2d6=8, an uncertain result.

Dorgan will stop and calmly wait for the riders to approach.

Morgan stands with the pilgrims and offers words of encouragement.

The riders thunder up to Dorgan with their gleaming spears bristling even in the drizzle. When it is clear that Dorgan doesn't mean to fight them, the Enigma-clad riders pull up just short, showering Dorgan in clods of mud.

"What is the meaning of this?!" demands a hot-headed zealot from high up in his saddle. "You lot were ordered off, so beat it!"
