Re: (069) Pilgrims & Practicalities

| Okay, so let's zoom out to "town-time" for the conclusion of the evening and the night.

You have at your disposal/under your care fifteen pilgrims (11 normal women and four normal men), and just shy of a dozen player-types: Desmond, Armando, Ashtad, Dorgan, Beringar, Josiane, Helmut, Hiridhren, Valorn, and Ulric. All told that's 25 mouths to feed and 25 beds to make.

The kitchen, refectory, and dormitories have been cleared "enough" to be used tonight, but they will require another day--or more--of serious effort to get back into a proper state.

There are 30 bunks in the dorms, and two beds--one situated at either end of the dorms-- with a bit more space and privacy.
Fresh linen and clothes can be brought up from the laundry.
For supplies, you have a quantity of waybread that will keep you going in the short term, but you will need to think about reviving the razed gardens in the courtyard before too long, or else finding supplies elsewhere.
You have enough water to go around tonight, buy you will need to locate a water source tomorrow.

Dorgan has proposed a watch roster, but bear in mind that anyone who takes a watch--or is interrupted by anything requiring more detailed activity than "town time"--will not qualify to cash in their XP.

Any further instructions for the evening/night? |

There were a dozen crossbows; each required two wheels; one above the door, and the other above the weapon. So there were two dozen of these (quite a jumble).

Let's say around 20ft of wire per weapon; makes for 240ft all told, in 20ft lengths. Together that lot weighs almost as much as 100ft of rope (say 10lb).

"I will take a shift to stand guard tonight. Are we going to setup the wired cross bows at the doors, to plant a surprise for any unwelcome visitors", asks Ashtad.

Re: (069) Pilgrims & Practicalities

| Desmond picked up the one crossbow to replace his missing bow for the time being. Possibly WOTE would let us assume Ashtad brought an extra crossbow along, as well? If not, he'd be fine with it being used for that for the night, but would request another be grabbed from the pile for future use.

I'll update Desmond's inventory with a total of 12 small brass pulleys/wheels, six 20' sections of thin wire, one crossbow, and 10 bolts. |

Desmond suggests Dorgan secure the northern end of the dormitory, where the great fiery-eyed golem wrecked the wall, by overseeing the shfting of the blocks in the rubble to completely block off the one end by the four men.

While they are doing that, he will use the spare crossbow to secure the door at the other end of the dormitory with some of their wire and small brass pulleys. He won't actually set the trap until they are sure everyone who is going to go into the dormitory for the evening is in the dormitory.

Desmond does not need anything extravegant, like a single bed, but he does want to attempt to sleep through the night for a complete rest.

| Desmond would like to try and level up. |

Re: (069) Pilgrims & Practicalities

Once Dhrenis satisfied that there are no secret places inside the abbey to be found, he will move back towards the group to give any help that he may.

"I note that some of you look quite weary from your escapades here. I'd like to offer taking a double-watch, should any need succor from that duty, so they might be refreshed," says Dhren to the group.

| I don't know much of the outside tactical situation currently, so am a bit lost as to offering advice on it. Specifically, other than the doppelganger, are there any other close-by monstrous threats that would keep us from having teams of two player characters along with two of the npc men and four of the npc women out and gathering wood to shape into crude hunting-bows for hunting? Or shy of that, rigging some crude man-made traps for hunting small game, or searching about for streams or other water sources? With two PC's to guard, and six NPC eyes that might spy something dangerous, would this be a decent idea to go out and scout the VERY local areas for needed water and supplies? Just trying to drum something up |

Helmut feels the heavy weight of fatigue but, with it, the sense of new revelations just beyond reach. If only he could get a decent sleep, perhaps these frangments of thoughts would meld into something.

He watches the burgeoning group preparing for some respite - pilgrims, men, elves, dwarves...but wait. What of...

"Those at the ring," he blurts suddenly, "they have not returned?"

Dorgan replies, An excellent idea, friend Desmond, but it'll have ta wait fer tomorrow. I think we're safe enough fer one night, and folks are too tired fer more work.

Dorgan is a bit concerned with this plan.

I don't think we need ta be that worried 'bout break-ins. Olaf or Dieter will not be happy if'n they come back fer a night's rest and catch a bolt in the gut.

Desmond shrugs his indifference, picks up his loaded crossbow, settles into a bunk, and attempts to sleep through the night.

Re: (069) Pilgrims & Practicalities

Armando shows the foreign-looking crossbow to Ulric and Dorgan, and indeed takes a closer look at it himself. Perhaps it bears some curious marking, or some identifiable decoration that might indicate its provenance?

He will leave the crossbow and the two bolts with Dorgan, in any event. Suddenly feeling quite exhausted, Armando will find a bunk to collapse into. Armando would like to get a full night's rest* but will instruct Dorgan to wake him should the need arise.

And with that, Armando appears to settle in for the night.

Re: (069) Pilgrims & Practicalities

Once she is satisfied that the place is as homely as it can be made under the circumstances, and if anyone would do her the honour of accompanying her, Josiane would like to go and collect her owl. She doesn't want Hoot feeling abandoned outside this place again...
