[p Man,mail+helm,sword,shield,9,16/16]Dieter[/p], [p Halfling,leather,short sword,main gauche,9,12/12]Desmond/Mondes[/p], [p Young Man,leather+helm,sword,shield,12,14/14]Olaf[/p], and [p Elf,leather+helm,hand,hand,12,7/8]Wen[/p] are here.

ehiker133 wrote:Desmond stows his whet stone, shoulders his pack, and says, "I'm in, Dieter. Shall we see what is beyond that great big statue, then? We'll probably need another light source."

Once they get to the bottom of the stairs inside the crater, Desmond will take the lead. Seeing the destruction of the floor by the large pit trap, he murmurs, "Looks like I wasn't the only one dismantling traps..."

He sticks to the safe side of the path at the first section of tunnel, then winds around the corner, testing the floor with his sword whenever he sees anything that might be suspect. He is also mindful of tripwires that might drop something on them or launch arrows at them.

| What is the surface of the floor? dirt? stone (bedrock)? paved stone? |

[p Halfling, leather, short sword, main gauche,9,12/12]Desmond/Mondes[/p] takes the initiative and leads the way down the narrow, cylindrical stair that circles the inside rim of the crater, and leads the team down into the basal layer below the chapel.

The original floor here is of ancient flagstones; large, irregular-shaped rocks with slightly curved faces. There is only hard packed earth between the stones. The narrow stair that leads down here is clearly newer work.

It is dim down here.

Mindful of traps, the intrepid halfling leads the way back toward the passageway wherein [p Man,mail+helm,sword,shield,9,16/16]Dieter[/p] and Dorgan fell through the trapdoor and down into the pit of awful shadows. He can just about see the damage that his fellows did to the floor around the trapdoor when they were last here...

Desmond waits for someone with a light source to come down before doing anything else but warily eye his current surroundings with two sets of peepers.

Olaf takes up rear guard, as per usual, insisting that Wen be in the middle of the group for now.

"Wen, could you light a torch to light our way, and still maintain your spell?" Olaf asks.

"Or one of us could light a torch and hand it to you," Dieter adds.

"And Desmond, if it doesn't offend your intrepid skills, would you like a rope about you in case there are more pits?"

ooc: Web carries a torch he can not also carry his bow. The Elven split move was the last thing I have to offer. :)

Wen when would comply and light a torch for the group.

Desmond is not opposed to carrying the torch. Might help him with looking for traps and such, even.

Very good.

[pp Elf,leather+helm,torch,hand,12,7/8]Wen[/pp] draws a torch forth and puts a spark to it. Soon it is burning hungrily and the way is lit.

[p Halfling, leather, short sword, main gauche,9,12/12]Desmond/Mondes[/p] is looking at the circular bass-relief carving of the wolf-figure on the wall, directly ahead of him. Its glare seems disturbingly animated as the shadows cast off [pp Elf,leather+helm,torch,hand,12,7/8]Wen[/pp]'s torch pitch and sway among its recesses.

None the less, the passage seems to do a U-turn to [p Halfling, leather, short sword, main gauche,9,12/12]Desmond/Mondes[/p]'s right.

[p Man,mail+helm,sword,shield,9,16/16]Dieter[/p] and [p Young Man,leather+helm,sword,shield,12,14/14]Olaf[/p] are here too.

"Has anyone given this statue a once-over? Or did anybody make it this far?"

After asking, Desmond examines the statue more closely to see if he can find anything unusual about it, like levers or secret compartments or something that indicates it is something more than just a statue.

It's not so much a statue as a decorative carving on the wall. It is only about 3in deep, but the shadows make it seems much more three-dimensional.
