From Ashtad's position she peers around to see if there be any other way across to the other side, or if there are any more creatures around.

Of course, Helmut and Valorn are lawful sorts; their word is as good as their bond! |

The only other way Ashtad can see across the ravine is to scurry down one steep edge, and up the other--it would be a tiresome and dangerous climb. Or else to go looking for another bridge, or a shallower part of the ravine... but who knows how long that might take.

"Ah right, then," smirks the giant, "Come ova then an' let's have yer grub. All ov it mind--oi've got a fierce pang in me belly, an' oi eats thrice the likes o' yoo when oi ain't hungry."

(Meanwhile Valorn has edged himself to about half way across the bridge...)

Helmut is loath to trust the word of a beast, but sees little choice at present. He edges cautious up the last rickety steps to the far edge, and sidles around the beast, keeping two wary eyes on it the whole time (and simultaneously racking his brain for tips on fighting piles of stone).

Once on solid ground, he upends his pack before the beast. The remnants of trail rations pour out onto the earth, with a hammer, some iron spikes, a collection of torches and a tinder.

"As I said, slim pickings" he says, standing back to let the creature take his payment and ready for any mischief that may ensue, "But payment nonetheless as agreed".

| The ref uses a reaction check to determine how the bridge-troll responds to these offerings; 2d6=8, so it's a neutral reaction... |

"Hmmm," grumbles the bridge-troll, dubiously poking thru Helmut's possessions. "Let's hope this 'ere Dwarf is carryin' sommin' more fillin', else oi'll 'ave ta eet one of yoo people instead..."

By now Valorn is approaching the far side, causing the little bell to tinkle with his progress.

| Anything more? |

Ashtad seeing no other way across will keep her position on the other side of the bridge with bow ready, keeping an eye out so no one can sneak up on her.

OOC: How far is it to the other side, is it a long or medium ranged shoot with a bow?

The ravine is about 50 yards wide, so it would be about a 70 yard shot from where Ashtad is to where Helmut is. By the book this is considered short range for a longbow.

"I am sure we can come to some arrangement" replies Helmut, entirely unconvinced of this himself.

He repacks his non-food possessions as Valorn completes the voyage over the chasm, peering around surreptitiously for the best place to stand if it comes to a fight, or the best escape route if it comes to fleeing.

Valron will get off the bridge and then offer the creature some of his rations.
