Armando quietly tops the breach into the interior of the Chapel and brings his lantern to hand. He catches up to Highbough and whispers, "No sign of Gustave yet? I seem to have located a kennel of sorts, across the yard — but daren't explore further on my own."

Armando looks about the ashen floor of the room and tries to identify any peculiar tracks ...

[p Man,leather,short-sword,hand,12,7/7]Armando[/p] arrives and imparts his short tale to [p Old Elf,leather+helm,spear,hand,12,10/10]Highbough[/p].

Those in the chapel proper observe the forward party reach the ground level, below, and begin to reconnoiter the chamber below. The rope is drawn out to within 10ft or so of its end by the time [p Man,mail+helm,sword,shield,9,16/16]Dieter[/p] reaches to foot of the stair. He seems to pause there, while [p Dwarf,mail+helm,axe,shield,9,24/24]Dorgan[/p] the dwarf moves off cautiously toward some unknowable objective.

Meanwhile, [p Elf,leather+helm,hand,hand,12,8/8]Wen[/p] has attained the mezzanine overlooking the chapel interior, and looks down upon the whole of the sorry disarray. Behind him, in an irregular shaped nook is a tiny, grubby window that looks outward, over the roof of the abbey structure behind the chapel. There, in the grey light of day, be briefly glimpses white doves fluttering by the portal as they come and go to their roof-top nest, blissfully unaware of vulgar happenings within...

His curiosity getting the better of him, Ulric descends the stairs to join Dieter, Josiane, and Dorgan below.

"They will need more light below," he says as he approaches the stairs, "and perhaps a more arcane eye."

Torben

'Into the belly of the beast,' he says, checking over his gear. He follows Ulric down the steps.

Lantern and silver dagger to hand, Armando follows Highbough and Torben down the stairs.

Beringar

After having another drink from his gourd, to treat his sore mouth, he will follow the others downstairs. His spear will be ready for any scum attempting to assail the Company from behind.

Wen would peer out the grubby, partial to enjoy the unusual juxtaposed scene and partial to make sure there is nothing approaching via roof top. Once satisfied he would complete the circuit before defending back down to catch up with the others. Hopefully before the last of them have gone down below into the Basal.

Olaf looks about for somewhere to tie off the rope, if he sees a place he will, otherwise, he will start down the stairs keeping about 10 feet of slack in the rope as he goes.

"Having a rope to come back up if we need one is good, but I'm not planning on standing up here all day!" Olaf says.

OOC: There should be a way to tie off the rope to the stair banister, right?

Very well.

[pp Man,robes,lantern,hand,12,9/9]Ulric[/pp] with his lantern, then [p Man,elvish mail+helm,spear,shield,12,10/11]Torben[/p] (in his sparkling elvish mail), then [p Man,leather,spear,hand,12,7/7]Beringar[/p], and [p Old Elf,leather+helm,spear,hand,12,10/10]Highbough[/p] and finally [p Man,leather,short-sword,hand,12,7/7]Armando[/p] proceed down the stair.

| All of the above mentioned over to thread 62 please... |

[p Young Man,leather+helm,sword,shield,12,12/14]Olaf[/p] notes that there is no banister on the stair--it is an unguarded affair--so he takes a moment to anchor the rope to the foot of a nearby bench-pew instead. It is rightly heavy, so should do well.

Meanwhile, up on the mezzanine, [p Elf,leather+helm,hand,hand,12,8/8]Wen[/p] gazes forlornly out the smudged window for a moment. Though it be wan and grey, and seen only through a grubby little window, the daylight outside is fair indeed compared to the bleak dark of the hole in the earth he knows he is about to enter...
