Re: (057) Dawn Patrol

Wen would make his way carefully to the stairs.. If they look safe enough he'd make his way up to the mezzanine to cover the others with he bow from above.

Highbough stops just inside the chapel door, peeks his head out, and watchfully scans the courtyard for movement. "Any sign of our missing friends?" he whispers to those inside.

Dorgan will wait for someone to bring Dieter's rope back to him.

Re: (057) Dawn Patrol

Once Dieter gets his rope back, he'll set the hook in the wall near the broken windows/doors and tie the other end around under his shoulders. He'll sheathe his silvered sword and take a torch from somebody who has one and proceed to the edge of the pit. Then he'll look down inside.

(Should he be attacked, he'll use the torch to defend himself and attempt to get back to the party.)

Re: (057) Dawn Patrol

Once the rope is obtained and Dieter is secure, Dorgan will find some sturdy footing and hold onto the rope, so as to be well-placed in any Dieter-retrieval schemes.

Re: (057) Dawn Patrol

Olaf has a rope and grappling hook, so when he gets inside he will pass it along (he and I don't remember if it's Dieter's or someone else's) when Dieter calls for a rope.

Olaf will remain on guard...keeping his eyes open for anything coming from the closed doors or the outside.

Re: (057) Dawn Patrol

Ulric moves into the chapel behind the line of warriors, providing what light he can with his lantern.

"That should be the front door there," he says pointing to the door in the south wall. "I believe that door," Ulric points at the lower door in the eastern wall, "is the one Gustave and Highbough went through on our last visit and met up with the rest of you."

"We did see the dark robed priests enter the crater on our last visit when it was full of tar. Maybe there is are stairs?"

Re: (057) Dawn Patrol

Once the rope is in place, Dieter goes to the edge of the pit and looks inside. What does he see by the light of his torch?

Are there indeed stairs?

Re: (057) Dawn Patrol

Olaf unhitches the rope he has slung over his shoulder and assists Dieter in tying it around his waist while Dorgan finds a likely spot among the tumbled pews to anchor himself against Dieter's weight should there be a need.

Meanwhile the others cast their collective gaze suspiciously about the dim interior; lit partially by grey daylight and partially be Ulric's trusty lantern.

Wen nimbly skirts the crater, and makes his way briskly to the wireframe stair between the two doors at the rear. It appears to be constructed from a half-inch cable of iron, twisted into the shape of a stair by cunning smiths, with wedge-shaped wooden treads climbing up the iron frame. It looks strong enough to bear several men, so one elf shouldn't be any problem. He begins to scamper upward...

Meanwhile, Dieter (now safely roped) approaches the lip of the crater and--by the light of the torch in his left hand--spies that a narrow stone stair curls down the perimeter of the vaguely circular hole. It is only 3ft wide, so will carry one abreast, and looks rather "rough and ready". About 20ft below the stair reaches the floor of a subterranean level--a plain paved floor is all he can see...

Outside, Armando sidles across the inner yard toward the chapel, where he crosses the plank bridge and begins to follow after his fellows...
