"Cover me," Dieter says, drawing his sword. "I'll go check it out."

As he advances alone, Dieter is mentally rehearsing the command word for his ring in case he needs to remove himself from danger in a hurry.

Dieter moves closer, sword in hand. The others hang back some, follow up at half pace... the rain dripping off them all.

He gets within 30 paces, then 20, and just a dozen paces...

Water is running steadily off the belly of the overturned cart, deflected (mostly) away from the tiny hollow in the rocks beneath it.

"Who goes there?" says a gruff voice from somewhere behind the overturned cart...

(A familiar gruff voice? Or a strange gruff voice?)

"Dieter Ogreslayer," Dieter identifies himself, in a voice somewhat louder than he intended. His sword points almost of its own volition toward the voice.

"At last!" grunts the voice, and there is a shuffling of movement before Victor and Boris emerge from the hidy-hole beneath the over-turn cart.

They look muddy, wet and cold. But when they spy only three Men, a look of further dismay comes over them.

"This don't look good," mutters Boris. "What happened to the others?"

Victor merely spits.

"A cook you say? I could murder a hot cuppa," grumbles Victor. And spits.

"So what now then?" asks Boris.

There looks to be roughly an hour's light left in the gloomy day. The rain continues to fall.

Dieter sets about the cold task efficiently, manfully hauling the cart out of the little hollow and righting it -- a job that would normally require two strong Men!

Then Victor and Boris haul the two chests and the rest of the company's gear out from the back of the hollow. A lot of it is sodden and muddy (perhaps some of the supplies are ruined with wet -- but there will be time to look into that later).

Between them all they lug the heavy chests and the rest of the gear up onto the rickety cart, positioning as much of it as possible over the axles for better balance.

The cart isn't in great shape, one side being knocked off entirely, and the rear gate looking like it might fall off at any moment. The left hand side wheel is none to steady either. But it all, with two Men pulling from the front, and two Men pushing from behind it is possible to move the load at a miserly slog, out of the rocky gorge...

By the time all this is established and ready to go, all five Men (Dieter, Andaros, Olaf, Boris and Victor) and soaked to the skin and muddy to the knees.

There can hardly be an hour of daylight left, and the rain is falling more steadily than the wind is gusting.

It is going to be a major undertaking to get the cart back down the rocky ridge and into the next gully...

Who is pushing and pulling? Is anyone on lookout duty?

There will be somebody on lookout duty, or else Dieter will take that chore upon himself and let the others push...
