The sound of dripping water is music to KOCH'S ears. With great caution, partly due to worry of slipping, partly due to aching muscles, KOCH makes his way to the source of that glorious sound. KOCH will keep his eyes to the floor to look for hidden dangers. Once at the water, he will observe it by sight and smell to determine if it is suitable for drinking.

Koch presses forward, pushing past the Dwarf as he moves into the chamber proper -- as if enspelled by the musical sound of dripping water.

However, not a few steps into the cave (and still a good many more from the pool) Koch sees a glistening slick darkness ripple upon the floor. At six yards away it is impossible to tell whatever it may be, but a sickly smell arises as the viscous thing contracts itself into a thick pipe, and then pulls itself up so that one end of it rises three or four feet into the air to turn, quivering pseudopods extending toward him -- as if tasting the air!

In all the amorphous thing might be 10ft long and 3 or 4ft wide when flat upon the ground.

What now?

Drawn to the water, KOCH freezes mid-step, one boot still in the air, as he sees a quivering mass of - ooze? jelly? protoplasm? - start to extend towards him. Thinking quickly to himself, 'I don't care what it is, I want nothing to do with it, I can go without water a while longer.'

KOCH begins to withdraw, slowly walking backwards to keep an eye on the blob. He extends the torch out towards the blob, hoping beyond hope that the thing will shy away from the open flame.

As he approaches Nidhogg, KOCH whispers, "I think there was a good reason this path was closed off. I'd rather deal with Saxxon's men than this monstrosity. Let us hope it will not give chase."

As long as the blob does not make a sudden move/attack, KOCH will backtrack as described above towards the opening of the cavern.

Koch back-peddles hastily, thrusting the torch before him so that he spies the wet mass is not a single creature at all, but rather three or four independent slug-like things wallowing in a shallow pool before him. The roused creature quests in the air for a moment, its mouth part an ugly sucker around a run of sharp, miniature fangs, that seem to quiver in anticipation, before the thing gradually falls back to its wallowing, apparently sightless and unaware of Koch or Nidhogg...

As it seems the slug-like things are ignoring them for now, KOCH examines the cavern to determine if there are paths that lead away from the pool and away from the gatehouse.

Koch skirts the wallowing slugs, and find another route to the main pool. The water there looks and smells cool, crisp and refreshing. Every handful of seconds another drip drops into the pool from above, making a pleasing echo.

After his long confinement, Koch can no long recall exactly where the gatehouse stands. But he knows for sure it overlooked a wide canyon, so the crawlway must have run parallel to the canyon else they should have fallen into it by now! It seems probable that they are still somewhere beneath the fortification...

Looking about the cavern, it seems that an eager Man could explore several low, dark cave crawls out of this place, return the way they came, or else attempt to climb up (somehow?) to where the light falls in from above...

Nidhogg will hold his breath and skirt the slugs to look about the cavern. Specifically looking for a way to climb up to the light source.

KOCH approaches the water at the using the path that avoids the zlugs. He examines the water for the presence of slugs by pushing his shield through the water. If no slugs are present and the water still appears fresh, KOCH will splash water in his face and drink from the pond. He then collects water in his bottle, capping it with a rock, if possible.
