He calls out, but the blackness seems to swallow his voice entirely, and a moment later it is as if he had never uttered a word. No reply comes from beyond... and Highbough feels the edge of his vulnerability keenly...
Highbough will swiftly backtrack and report his findings to the group.

"Shadowy intersections... echoless tunnels... ogres lurking in the gloom..."

But when Dieter pries apart the thick timbers of the other great chest, even more coins spill out in a great rush, clinking and jangling in a most appealing fashion as they bounce upon the floor.

Spurred on by success, Dieter works faster, flexing his enormous muscles to lever off two, then three more pieces of dusty timber. With the lid half prised opened it is clear that the huge chest is full to brimming with tarnished coin -- silver and copper in the main, and wait! What is this? Dieter reaches in a then slowly holds up a long necklace of dazzlingly clear stones that glint and glimmer in the ocher torch light, sparkling like a spring stream.

"Ohh!" gasps the company collectively as they lay eyes upon the glamorous piece of jewelry. "Now that be fit for a fine Lady indeed," huffs Thorgrim in admiration.

And also Gustave spies half buried among the coin a tarnished old copper flask, stoppered and wax sealed and with the verdigris of ages upon its etched surfaces...
"It hurts me to see the faces our fallen brothers-in-arms but we need to remove there armor/backpack before their bodies stiffen up. Then lets use there backpacks to carry this treasure and Anwyn, Caine, Flewellen and Michele purse coin. Who here is strong and able please assist us and carry this treasure, as we need to get to back to the horse and cart where Victor and crew await us", asks Padrig.

"Food!" Dieter exclaims, stopping dead in his tracks. "That's what we need. Let's eat first,
and then we can go after that Ogre with full stomachs.

"It'll be safer than sleeping," he mutters, getting out his rations. "You don't need to take your armor off to eat."

Flewellen's body has already been stripped of valuables. What little remains on him is downstairs in the dark entry passage.

The body of Caine, along with all his goods, was dragged away by the Ogre.

The bodies of Anwyn and Michele have been bought into the Ogre lair and can be searched.

I will list all the goods they carried in my next post (as my records are as accurate as I can keep them -- those in the Cast thread tend to get out of date).

By the time Highbough returns to the main chamber, followed shortly after by Padrig and Olaf (who have now dragged both Ogre corpses into cells in the torture chamber), the others have fetched the bodies of Michele and Anwyn and laid their possesses out upon the floor.

The smouldering Ogre cook fire continues to produce a humble orange light in the chamber, but more importantly a credible warmth. Unfortunately, the great black cauldron atop the fire also continues to produce a rank stench of whatever horrid stew the Ogres had been preparing. None have dared look into that as yet, and it is probably best left so before you dine yourselves.

Anwyn, the foolishly brave Elf maid, had the following possessions;
  • Ringmail armour,
  • A dagger,
  • A short sword,
  • A shortbow,
  • A quiver containing 3 arrows and 6 silver arrows,
  • A bedroll,
  • A backpack,
  • A half empty water skin,
  • Trail rations enough for 6 days,
  • A belt-pouch,
  • A grappling hook,
  • A purse containing 4 copper pennies,
  • A spare bow-string,
  • A tinderbox,
  • A set of locksmith's tools in a leather wrap,
  • A pair of elbow-length eel skin gloves with but two fingers remaining on each glove.
Michele the bold fighting-man had the following possessions;
  • A backpack,
  • Victuals for a further 5 days,
  • A half empty water skin,
  • A purse containing 2 sp and 14 cp,
  • Leather armour,
  • A belt hung bolt case containing 16 bolts,
  • A wooden fighting staff,
  • A fine cape,
  • A poke containing several dozen glass marbles.
Michele's arbelast was consumed by the oil-fire in the passageway.
