Anwyn cleans her blade on the remains of the dead merchant's robe -- achieving a grimly satisfactory result.

Ulric inspects the white gold ring but cannot identify etchings of any sort despite the new found light.

With the amount of time passed since their wounds were taken, there is nothing further that can be done for either Olaf or Dieter, other than to allow them a good night's rest. In another half hour or so, both are able to sit up and take water. And another half beyond that and they can stand stiffly and hobble about, but both are still feeling weak as kittens (half strength and dexterity) and can scarcely carry their gear, let alone fight effectively...

All this while Mads is keeping a careful watch on the dark, creepy entrance to the tower dunjon, but he the chilling breeze he felt earlier seems to have subsided. Perhaps he just imagined it?

By this time it is close to mid afternoon, and the wind outside has picked up again, pushing dark clouds ahead of it. It looks almost certain to rain again before nightfall.

Taines helps Anwywn burn the top floor, using lantern oil (unless someone else has a more direct means), then makes his way back down stairs to investigate the lower floor.

Taines make sure his sappers lantern is still lit has he leads the way from the ground floor down to the basement.

Taines, all told you have have exactly one flask of oil which is enough to fuel the lantern of your sapper's helm four times. Each fill of your lantern will burn for approximately one hour.

Having filled the lantern once already, your oil flask is now just three quarters full, and Anwyn does not have any oil to burn.

Do you want to use all of your remaining oil to raze the spider lair?

(OOC Ahh ..yes you are correct. Taines still wishes to burn the place, and uses the remaining oil to do so.

Very well.

Taines sprinkles the remainder of his oil supply about the spider lair, taking care to wet the dried up corpses, the spider carcass and especially the webs beneath the thatched nest which harbours the clutch of sinister eggs. That being done he discards the empty flask and lights a wick of tallow in the little flame of his sapper's lamp -- and taking care to shield it from the mercurial breeze -- touches it to the hobgoblin corpses.

To his satisfaction the little flame that flickered weakly at first takes foot in the dried body, and soon starts to burn hungrily. Taine's expression changes from satisfaction to wonder as the flame is fanned by the breeze and builds quickly, leaping form one oil spot to another, and then beings to race up the thick ropes of web that choke the chamber.

"Oops," mutters Taines to himself, seeing his folly, as the flames begin tearing up the curtains of webs that coat the walls a foot thick in places. Before he knows it the entire room is roiling with crackling and snapping wind driven flames and a thick choking smoke.

Taines, Ulric, and Anwyn are all forced to retreat down the stairs, arms raised to guard themselves from the intense heat...

If the upper room is stone, I don't think it will collapse into the lower room...but you can't be sure of that, so moving outside until it finishes burning is probably a good idea.

And if we're moving away from the tower any distance at all, someone is going to have to carry...or at least support...Olaf as he is "weak as a kitten."

Actually, once the upper room is 'cleansed' it might be a good idea to move in for the night. The hobgoblins would have a problem attacking us up the stairs through the single entrance, and we'd be right there to move against them when we are ready. Of course, that's just Olaf's...not very wise idea.

"Good idea." Rodrick grabs Olaf and carries him out of the ruins, following/leading the rest of his companions to a safe location some 100 ft. away.
