Re: Delve the 10th

The party heads out, bolstered by an expert fighter. You head down the slanting passageway, which soon turns directly west, and quickly ends in a 20 ax 20 chamber, A stone statue, 4' high, sits in the middle of the chamber. It looks like a winged demon with fangs and claws

| for the mapper: your 20' of diagonal is perfect. Now the passage heads west 30', and opens into a 20x20 chamber, with the extra 10' on the north of the entrance. An exit from the chamber is on the west wall, at the top 10', leads to another 20x20 chamber |

Re: Delve the 10th

If combat is joined - as Aldbane has no magic weapon, he will hang back and guard the entrance, but be ready to assist with his staff of healing if needed.

Maloof will also keep back and watch behind us down the slanting passageway.

Re: Delve the 10th

Wiglaff has never met a gargoyle, so he'll try talking, but before that, he'll mutter commands to his men-at-arms:

"If a melee breaks out, get in there but don't try to hit it -- just defend yourselves from its attacks, and let those with magic weapons destroy it!"

In other words, he orders them into melee but only to parry (and draw the attacks of the gargoyle).

That done, he deals with the presumed gargoyle:

"Gargoyle!" he says from his place in the marching order. "We seek passage through these rooms! Will you aid us, or stand in our way?"

Re: Delve the 10th

acodispo has posted an interesting question in the Q&A thread about normal weapons wielded by hero types. I wouldn't mind if others went to that post and weighed in with their thoughts

Franklin draws his magic sword and prepares to fight! He will let others draw the attack, and then pounce with his counter-attack.

Re: Delve the 10th

Well, Rhod has a magic sword. So he'll advance on the Gargoyle (assuming someone is with him) and strike it.

Re: Delve the 10th

Wiglaff doesn't possess a magic weapon, nor do his hirelings, and he is not armoured for a fight. So he'll stay out of melee, but order his three men-at-arms in with the express command that they merely defend themselves and draw the attacks of the gargoyle, while the more powerful or magically-armed figures finish it off.

Re: Delve the 10th

I want to thank everybody for their input on the Q&A forum about heroes vs creatures hit by magic weapons. I have decided that Rules as Written will prevail, and heroes without magic sword can hit creatures like gargoyles. I am also going to stand by Rhodan stating that he could not harm it :D

There is no answer, acknowledgement, or movement from the gargoyle
