If Wiglaff may borrow someone's spear or quarterstaff (if necessary he'll beckon one of his hired warriors to pass over his weapon), he'll stand outside the cage, and press down on the floor of the cage as hard as he can with the butt of the weapon.
His goal is to see if the floor inside the cage (beyond the gap) has any give, thereby suggesting a trap, a false floor ... or an elevator!

Yeah, that could get us in to really deep trouble (no pun intended) really quickly! I'm glad we're not using it yet.
