He sees a large room with many corridors leading off it. The base room is 40 feet east/west and 60 feet north/south. This corridor enters the room 20' up on the west wall. There is a corridor leading out at the 50' section of the west wall, on the 40; section of the east wall, and on the 20' east section of the north wall. The floor is made of a reddish material, like clay but even deeper colotr

Franklin reports back to his friends that there is a large room with many exits, no monsters, and a strange red floor.

(If I am reading the description correctly, then the door 30' to our north also leads to the red room, thereby completing our inventory of the doors leading off the great hall of pillars.)

"Well, we've checked all these doors. Where to next, friends? I say we head north, see if we can find an alternate connection to the dwarf temple, and the room where we found the cockatrice."

"Aye, and let us pray we meet no more charlatans who know'st not even the secret of the talking bone! Tche!" Catweazle raps his staff on the floor in his impatience to move on.

We will pass through the red-floored room, after:

carefully prodding the floor to make sure it's stable
looking at the ceiling to make sure the red clay isn't some monster dropping
careful first steps to make sure the stuff doesn't dissolve our shoes or something
any other precautions others may suggest

Then through the red-floored room (glance down the east passage on our way past) and head out the north passage.

The red floor is firm but spongy - it gives a bit on contact, but springs back.

The ceiling looks like normal ceiling, but only 7 feet high

A few quick steps make you feel like you could bounce around the room like a pogo stick

Franklin volunteers to go first. He feels he is short enough to pogo across the room without knocking his head on the 7' ceiling. He scoops up his dog Sconces into his arms for extra ballast. He would take a quick glance down the eastern passage and then explore to the north.

"Careful, Franklin!" whispers Wiglaff.

If Franklin makes it across safely, Wiglaff will follow, taking one careful step at a time if necessary.

@acodispo, the corridor leading north should be 10 feet more to the east
