What to do with the potion and sword?

The south door opens, and you see a tall humanoid with bird head and talons, holding a sword, stop in surprise upon beholding the party.

Rhod prepares to defend himself and the party, but does not move to attack; as far as I know, he's never seen one of these before.

You killed two of them last delve. Rhod and Grampus took a trip down a chute into an ogre pot, while the rest of the party was confronted by two hostile bird men

Maloof's mace swings in an arc towards the bird-creature's head before it can react!

Aldbane remembers the last two bird-creatures they fought and wastes no time attacking this one with his hammer.

Acting on impulse, Grampus draws the new sword from the treasure trove and charges the monster. "Let's find out what this blade can do!"

Okay, that explains why Rhod doesn't recognize the thing!

If everybody else is going to attack, he will, too. But he'll probably be too late for the surprise round.

The quick Rhod is first off the mark and he slices off the bird man's head before anybody else can react. Grampus won't have a chance to try out that sword, but when he drew it the blade limned with a faint blue sheen that often denotes an enchantment, not enough to shed light, but enough to be seen at a distance.


MECHANICS
Rhod attacks with sword, 19 hit for <1d6>=5 damage, killing it

Grampus looks disappointed that the fight was so easy. "Does anyone mind if I keep this sword?"

"The level seems infested with these things..." observes Golgildir. When the danger is gone, he retrieves his lantern.
