AC and HD Nerfed in V3 Gamma?

I just noticed the difference in the Gamma Ac and HD of some monsters, specifically Dragons. Was that to bring it more in line with the LBB stats? Iiked see AC -1 17HD on the Gold Dragon and Ac -3 HD 20 on Gothrog..

Just saying..

Re: AC and HD Nerfed in V3 Gamma?

Yes.

Every individual monster stat was scrutinised for the gamma, with anything that deviated by more than a pip or two from the 3LBBs corrected. Regarding ACs, the 3LBBs only deal in ACs ranging from 9 to 2 so that's the goal for DD Reliquary too.

Gothrogs were originally stated after the SRD's 20 HD "Balor", but bringing them back to "just the 10 hit dice" makes a lot of sense when you consider they are 75% magic resistant and that they come at you in groups of 1-6!

Dragons have always been a bit tricky for DD, because OD&D dragons have very explicit numbers of hit points--rather than rolling their HD as would any other monster. The issue is that this mechanic is not licensed under the SRD, so the goal for DD is that dragons should have a number of HD that give them, on average, very near to their OD&D hit point totals.
[f=32]Golgildir the Elf Medium (MV 12", AC 9, HD 1, hp 1/1, AL N) great cloak, lantern; spells: color spray; scrolls: sleep, sleep, charm person
Hirelings: Georges; torch[/f]
